Education Ministry pays tribute to Doreen Brown
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of Education, Youth and Information has joined the media fraternity in paying tribute to the late Doreen Brown, journalist extraordinaire.
The ministry said Brown was a gifted woman who has led a productive life, which has impacted positively on everyone that she met along the way.
According to a release from the ministry, Doreen received several accolades for her creative work during her illustrious career. She was recognised with the Seprod Award in 1977, in the category, public service (radio) for her documentary on emancipation and apartheid, and again in 1979, for her work on another documentary titled The Life and Times of Willie Henry, a well-known figure in agriculture in Jamaica.At the time of her passing, Doreen Brown was retired, having left the Jamaica Information Service (JIS) in October 1992.The ministry said her contributions are monumental and her work ethic remarkable. “Energy, commitment, integrity are words that capture the image of her.”The ministry lamented that the media fraternity has suffered yet another loss that of an outstanding colleague and human being, adding that it shares in the grief at Brown’s passing, and extends condolences to her bereaved family and friends.“The ministry salutes this consummate journalist. We pray for God’s continued comfort for Doreen’s family, colleagues and friends as they mourn this unimaginable loss and hope that her ethics of Godliness, hard work, and perseverance will be emulated by all. May her soul rest in peace.”
