UPDATE: Correctional officer suffers mild smoke inhalation in Tower Street fire
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) says a correctional officer suffered mild smoke inhalation as a result of a fire which broke out at a section of Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre (George Davis Centre) today.
In a subsequent release, the Ministry of National Security stated that none of the 18 inmates being housed at the centre, or any of the other inmates were injured in the blaze.Despite reports of allegations that an inmate started the fire, the ministry said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined and an estimate of loss has not been calculated. The Jamaica Fire Brigade Services is investigating the matter.Meanwhile, the DCS has commended the Rollington Town Fire Station for the quick response, and the staff at the institution for their vigilance.
