Vows: Endless Love

The attraction was immediate for Marcia Whittaker and Rohan Jones when they locked eyes at Brooklyn College during a Greek Mythology class. Their wedding on Saturday, April 22 at the Trident Castle, Port Antonio, Jamaica, was as ethereal as it was memorable. Vows shares highlights…

“We became inseparable,” shared Marcia, “since that Mythology class, and would soon be planning our wedding in Jamaica after Rohan’s proposal at the Fairmont Hotel in Bermuda over a candlelight dinner.

Rohan shares a few unique features of the wedding…

“Our wedding was a destination one. We live in New York and wanted to have our wedding in Jamaica. The Trident Castle in Port Antonio provided a great opportunity. Marcia was born in Portland which is a very special place for her. She has very fond memories as a child growing up there.

She left Port Antonio at a young age, but Port Antonio/Jamaica is where her heart is.

We contacted Kara-Ann Anderson, of Petals and Promises, who handled everything.”

Here comes the bride…

The bridesmaids in light yellow Nina V-neck long chiffon, open-back bridal evening dresses and carrying daffodils custom-made by Sound of Blossoming made their entrance to Here & Now by Luther Vandross.

The groomsmen complemented the bridesmaids in grey suits by Kenneth Cole Reaction, white shirts and yellow tie, yellow pocket squares, and brown wingtip Oxford shoes.

The groom stood dapper in a grey suit by Kenneth Cole Reaction, white shirt, and yellow and blue bow tie by Tommy Hilfiger and brown wingtip Oxford shoes. A yellow pocket square completed the look.

Rohan describes his most memorable moment as seeing Marcia, clutching her bouquet of soft yellow roses and lush white hydrangeas and escorted by her father Willard Whittaker, make her way to him to the the song When a Man Loves a Woman.

He recalls, too, just how stunning a bride she was in her Illusion lace and chiffon ball gown with long sleeves designed by Pronovias of Spain and purchased from Wedding Plaza NY.

There were many highlights for Marcia, among them:

Something new: all their immediate family in one place together for the first time

Something used: her earrings

Something borrowed: her necklace

Something blue: the groom’s tie

Bishop Stewart of the Miracle Temple Ministries, Brooklyn, NY was the officiant.

The Reception:

The newly-weds and their guests enjoyed a three-course dinner catered by the Trident Hotel. Then came the cutting of the six-tiered traditional fruit and carrot cake made by Patsy Burnett for Petals and Promises and decorated with fondant and white petals by Petals and Promises.

Their first dance was to the Diana Ross and Lionel Richie classic Endless Love.

The honeymoon followed at the Hotel Christopher in St Barths.
