Taylor, Chase named CWI/ WIPA cricketer of the year
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s Stafanie Taylor and Roston Chase were a short while ago named West Indies Women’s and Men’s Cricketer of the Year, respectively, at the Cricket West Indies (CWI)/ West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) awards ceremony at the Jamaica Pegasus.
The annual event, organised by WIPA, is now in its 14th staging, but fifth jointly between the two cricketing bodies.
Taylor, who at one point won the award eight times consecutively, has now achieved a ninth overall hold on the prestigious award to go along with her two other awards of the night. She was also named West Indies One-Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 Cricketer of the year.
Meanwhile, Chase, who recently made his transition to international cricket, was winning the prestigious award for the first time.
The award was one of four for the Barbadian, who was also named Test Cricketer of the Year; First Class Four-Day Cricketer of the Year and Emerging Player of the Year.
Another Jamaican, Andre Russell, was named West Indies Twenty20 Player of the Year, while West Indies Captain Jason Holder won the One-Day International Player of the Year award.
