Police High Command refutes claims of rift with INDECOM
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Police High Command has confirmed that the Independent Commissioner of Investigations (INDECOM) is to arrest 15 members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) for various breaches.
In a release this afternoon from the JCF’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the High Command sought to refute claims that there is a rift with INDECOM over the impending arrest of the 15.
Apart from the 15 members, four other JCF personnel are reportedly being processed and the High Command is reportedly awaiting additional information from INDECOM.
The CCU divulged that the members, having been advised of INDECOM’s intention, have since filed a leave application in the Supreme Court for Judicial Review, as Section 24 of the INDECOM Act makes provision for JCF members to exercise such rights.
The members are currently awaiting the hearing, which is set for November 2017 in the Supreme Court.
The JCF is also refuting as false, statements which suggest that the Attorney General will be meeting with the parties to discuss the issue.
CCU said that there is a scheduled meeting with the Attorney General; however, it has “absolutely nothing to do with the case involving the 15 members”.
The High Command said that it “respects the rights of every citizen, to include members of the JCF”, and will await the guidance and directive of the court, emphasising that there is “absolutely no dispute between INDECOM and the Police High Command”.
