Weekly Round-up: Shaw’s $8m phone bill… Would-be robber shot… Russell breaks record
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Prime Minster Andrew Holness on Tuesday ordered an audit as well as the capping of mobile phone bills of all Government ministers after news broke that Minister of Finance and Public Service, Audley Shaw, racked up telephones charges amounting to more than $8.3 million over a one-year period.
On that same day, Shaw disclosed that ignorance of data charges ran up his bill and that he paid $2.568 million out of pocket and secured a discount of $1.019 million from his cellphone service provider.
On Wednesday, a licensed firearm holder shot a would-be robber as he harassed a motorist in traffic in the vicinity of Half-Way-Tree Road in St Andrew.
And in sport, Jamaica’s contingent at the IAAF World Under-18 Championships is proving to be strong competitors as Dejour Russell on Thursday broke the 110m Hurdles championship record in the preliminary with a time of 13.08s.
