AFTER a four-year journey, Samory I has released his debut album titled Rory Stone Love Presents Samory I: Black Gold .

The 13-track set, produced by Rory Gilligan of Stone Love fame, was released on July 14.

“Da album yah is fi everybody who thirst fi righteousness… for all the people who are deceived by the system. So ‘ Black Gold’ is about worship, love, and freedom,” Samory I told the Jamaica Observer.

The singer said he assembled a formidable team of session musicians to get the sound he wanted. The team included saxophonist Dean Fraser and trombonist Nambo Robinson. The latter passed away in January 2017.

“This is how I want it. I’m definitely pleased with the final production,” he said.

‘Black Gold’s’ track listing includes the title song, Son Of David, Rasta Nuh Gangsta, Not Because, Suit and Tie, Rastaman, and Weed.

Samory I shared his insight on the some of the tracks.

“Mi love every track, as each one speak to a different issue… The name Black Gold come from the fact that all the black people in the world are gold… People who have been thrown aside, but needed by the ‘big corporation’ and the ‘system’ in their quest to acquire wealth. So we are the Gold. Weed is a message to politicians not to issue weed licences to only the rich and wealthy, while Rastaman is the way I perceive love towards a woman,” he said.

“I just want to open the ears of people to know that righteousness comes in a forms. People should give praises to the Most High and blessings will flow. I’m just sharing the teachings I’ve learnt through Rasta and a dat mi a deliver,” he continued.

A former student of Norman Manley High, Samory I (given name Samory-Tour Fraser) hails from the Kencot community in Kingston.

He made his recording debut four years ago with Just Believe (Ajang Records). His other recordings include Only Jah and Take Me Oh Jah.
