JCF refutes claims of stolen electricity at Negril Police Station
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica— The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is refuting “erroneous and misleading” claims of electricity theft at the Negril Police Station that were published in the media on Monday
According to a release from the JCF today, it was reported that about 5:40 pm on Monday, there was a power outage at the station due to a burnt out service wire, which was damaged due to consumption overload.
The JCF said members of the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) were summoned to the location but were unable to effect any repairs at the time.
“After closer scrutiny of the damage, the requisite equipment was utilised and electricity restored to the facility.
“During the repairs, two unserviceable meter panels were identified and removed. These boxes were initially thought to be a part of the electricity supply but were proven to be out of use for some time,” the JCF explained.
The JCF said the statement carried in sections of the media are considered malicious and misleading and negatively impacts the integrity of the JCF as it is mandated to work with the JPS to prevent such breaches.
