Wavz Beach becomes ‘Playground’

DESPITE Sunday’s heavy rainfall and gusty winds, thousands of patrons turned up for Appleton Celebrity Playground at Wavz Beach in Negril.

The event, part of the Dream Weekend series, got off to a late start, but by 6:00 pm there was a full house of revellers dressed in red and white.

Selectors including Jazzy T, Lord Hype, Charlie B, and those from sound systems Coppershot and Chromatic kept the audience in a dancing frenzy with their wide musical selections. High-end liquor such as Hennessey and Moët & Chandon were the drinks of choice as the bar hostesses were kept busy throughout the all-inclusive party.

On the outside, jerk chicken and snack vendors were equally busy. Marijuana vendors were not left out, as they tried to peddle their ‘wares’ to tourists and locals alike. Across from the venue, a man sold bottles of top-shelf liquor from the trunk of his van.

“This is my spot every year. A lot of persons won’t pay to go inside the venue, so they come in the party colours, buy their bottles, and have a party on the sidewalk. We can hear the music from here so it’s not like they are missing much,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

The party continued in full swing and at about 8:00 pm, fireworks lit up the night sky, to much cheers from the ‘Dreamers’.
