#London2017: J’can trio misses qualifying mark for women’s discus
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica will not have a representative in Sunday’s final of the women’s discus throw at the IAAF World Championships in London as none of the country’s three athletes reached the automatic qualifying mark of 62.50 metres.
Shadae Lawrence made her best throw of 59.25m on her second attempt, while teammate Kellion Knibb achieved 56.73m with her third throw.
Both women fouled on their other attempts.
The other Jamaican, Tarasue Barnett, fouled on all three attempts.
Cuba’s Yaime Perez, who missed out on a discus medal by one place at last year’s Rio Olympics, moved swiftly through to the final with a first attempt of 65.58m, well clear of the automatic qualifying mark.
Also qualifying automatically were Australia’s Dani Stevens (nee Samuels), who reached 65.56 with her first round effort, and France’s Olympic silver medallist Melina Robert-Michon, whose first round throw went out to 63.97m.
