Tonii Monroe on a high
Emerging act Tonii Monroe is celebrating a major accomplishment in her fledgling career as the video for her single Tightness has been added to the rotation of BET Soul in the United States.
“It’s a great look right now. My manager is pushing hard to get me signed to a major independent label in the US so he is going all out to get me the exposure I need on an international level, so I am so excited right now,” said the artiste, whose real name is Samantha Morris.
“I am just overjoyed at the reaction so far to the song, “ she continued.
Known for her bright hair colour and multiple piercings, she has always projected the image of a star.
“When I was younger, I used to tell my friends I didn’t want to do anything too crazy because I didn’t want anything to come back and haunt me when I became famous. Now, when my friends see my video for my song Tightness on TV, they are all laughing and saying: ‘Sam, how yu know say yu woulda be in the spotlight one day?’” she chuckled.
Tonii Monroe grew up in the Content Retreat district of Rocky Hall, St Mary. She attended Port Maria High and Tacky High schools.
“I envision myself having an international career but I want to get some recognition in Jamaica first,” she said.
