Cook falls as Windies stay ahead
LEEDS, United Kingdom (CMC) — Captain Jason Holder got the key wicket of Alastair Cook before tea as West Indies continued to haunt England in the second Test at Headingley here Sunday.
At the interval on the third day, England were 68 for one, still 101 runs behind going into the final session.
Opener Mark Stoneman was unbeaten on 35 and was partnered by Tom Westley on four.
Cook, who made 23, denied the Windies any early success as he put on 58 for the first wicket with Stoneman in easy batting conditions.
The left-handed Cook played cautiously in a 63-ball knock that included two fours while Stoneman has faced 85 deliveries and counted six fours.
Holder, whose nine overs on the trot cost just 10 runs, got the breakthrough about 20 minutes before tea when he beat Cook on a couple of occasions before finding the edge through to wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich.
Earlier, the Windies were dismissed for 427 in their first innings at lunch after resuming the day on 329 for five.
