PNP Region Six recommends sacking of FLA CEO
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Regional Executive Committee of the People’s National Party (PNP) Region Six has made a number of recommendations to the Government in relation to the gun licensing controversy plaguing the Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA).
Region six comprises of the constituencies in the parishes of St James, Hanover and Westmoreland.
The recommendations and some condemnation came after the region’s annual conference at the Manning’s High School, Savanna-la-Mar in Westmoreland on Sunday, the PNP said in a release today.
According to release, PNP Region Six condemned “the blatant politicisation of the board and executive management at the FLA by the Government” and “any acts of corruption at the FLA whether committed recently or at any time in the past”.
It also called for the removal of Chief Executive Officer, Shane Dalling, whose position it said is also compromised and his continuation as the head of the FLA is untenable.
PNP Region Six also urged the police and the Office of the Contractor Generals to speed up their investigations and ensure the prompt prosecution of any wrong doers in this matter to the full extent of the law.
The Government is also being urged to take concrete steps including providing more resources to the security forces to fight crime, make communities safe and so fulfil the promise of the Jamaica Labour Party made during the 2016 election campaign to enable Jamaicans to “sleep with their doors open” in a crime free Jamaica.
The PNP further committed itself, its members and leaders of the Opposition to work together with all stakeholders in communities and in the nation to reduce crime and make Jamaica a safe place for all its people, while providing opportunities for improving the social and economic conditions of the people of Jamaica.
