Residents in ZOSO to get gun amnesty — Chuck
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Government says that there will be a gun amnesty in each named Zone of Special Operations (ZOSO), which will allow residents to hand over illegal guns and other contraband.
According to Justice Minister Delroy Chuck, residents will be told when and where to leave the illegal weapons.
However, once the amnesty, which will run between the first 24 and 48 hours, is over, the occupants will have to account for any weapon or ammunition found.
Chuck, who was addressing a sensitisation session with lay magistrates at the Justice Ministry’s office in St Andrew yesterday, also said that the security forces will ensure that the rights of residents are respected while they are taking back the communities.
Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, this morning declared Mount Salem in St James as the first ZOSO.
