JLP councillor shot and injured in Spanish Town
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — Jamaica Labour Party Councillor for St Catherine South Central, Hawthorne Thompson, was shot and injured on Brunswick Avenue early this morning.
According to police reports about 12:30 am Thompson was closing his businessplace on the avenue when was pounced on by two gunmen who tried to rob him.
A struggle ensued between Thompson and one of the gunmen resulting in the other man opening fire. Thompson, a licensed firearm holder, was shot in the chest but managed to shoot in the direction of the robbers.
He was taken to the hospital where he was admitted.
The police said that one of the culprits later turned up at the hospital where he is currently being monitored by lawmen.
