Bob Marley’s keyboard player ‘Wya’ Lindo dead
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Earl “Wya” Lindo, Bob Marley’s keyboard player, died in London, England, yesterday. He was 64.
The Wailers’ manager, Lennie Chen confirmed his death.
“Yes, he is dead. I got a call from his manager yesterday. He said Wya was complaining about stomach pains and had gone to the hospital. He died a couple of hours later,” Chen told OBSERVER ONLINE from his Florida base.
Chen said Lindo was part of The Wailers’ three-week tour of United Kingdom in March. “He was looking forward to coming on the road with us again,” said Chen.
Judy Mowatt — a member of Marley’s backing vocal group, I Threes — remembers Lindo as a “selfless angel”. “I remember him as a very quiet person and an exceptional keyboard player. I remember him playing something for me. I had to play it over and over, as it brought rivers of tears to my eyes how he played the song. The kind of notes he played touched every chord in your soul,” said Mowatt, who is now a successful gospel artiste.
“He would play and give of himself and not look for anything in return. It would have to take someone with discretion to care for him. He was an angel. Wya gave of himself,” she added.
Lindo is survived by his wife and children.
