Fire brigade drivers, mechanics end work to rule
KINGSTON,Jamaica — Jamaica Fire Brigade drivers and mechanics are to resume normal operations at 7:00 am tomorrow, abandoning a work to rule that began Tuesday morning.
The restoration is pending the outcome of an upcoming meeting with the Ministry of Local Government and the board of the brigade, the National Workers Union (NWU) advised this afternoon.
Vice President of the NWU, Arthur Grant said the decision came after the union received communication from Minister of Local Government, Desmond Mckenzie, who has instructed a team led by the permanent secretary to meet with the parties in an effort to amicably settle the matter.
On Monday, the NWU instructed brigade drivers and mechanics islandwide to work to rule in furtherance to the dispute with the brigade management over the 2015-2017 wage negotiations.
A work to rule means that employees cannot be asked to do any task outside of what their contracts stipulate.
