KINGSTON, Jamaica — Crime Stop Jamaica and concerned citizens are offering a reward in an effort to find the culprits responsible for the 2016 murder of a 77-year-old Clarendon pensioner.

In a newspaper advertisement today, Crime Stop said J$200,000 and USD$3,900 is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the gunmen who murdered Beresford Shorter at his home on Omni Mews in Hazard Drive, May Pen, Clarendon on the evening of February 22,2016.

The agency reported that on the evening Shorter was killed, he had gone to the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in Kingston earlier to pick up his cousin who had just arrived home from an overseas visit.

When the pair arrived at Shorter’s house in Omni Mews about 7:50 pm, his cousin entered the house first and as Shorter was about to follow him, two gunmen appeared and immediately fired shots hitting Shorter, who fell to the ground.

The cousin was reportedly hit over the head with a firearm and robbed of a black bag that contained his passports, travel documents and an undetermined sum of British pounds and Jamaican dollars.

The two men then made good their escape on foot.

Shorter was subsequently rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival. The cousin was treated and released.

The police also theorise that Shorter’s .36 Taurus revolver (Serial Number ND90597), which was discovered missing during a search of the home, was also stolen.

Crime Stop said the police have been unable to make a breakthrough in the case and would like the public’s assistance in solving this murder, wounding and robbery.
