KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Football Federation is targeting existing and potential female coaches for an upcoming course to be conducted by FIFA instructor, Andrea Rodebaugh in Jamaica.

JFF said it applied to FIFA for this course in keeping with its overall coaching development plan and in particular to strengthen the coaching knowledge of coaches of female players. The course will run from October 2– 6.

Rodebaugh is a Mexican professional football coach and former player. She played midfield and has played for teams in the United States, France and Japan.

Considered among the best Mexican female footballers of the 1990’s, she was the captain of the Mexico women’s national football team during that decade, leading the team at the 1999 FIFA World Cup. She also coached the Mexico Under 20 Women’s squad guiding them to a place at the FIFA Under 20 Women’s World Cup in Chile 2008.

In a recent interview, Rodebaugh said: ” When I was a player I never thought of becoming a coach because I never had a woman coach… girls have to see women in those positions, as coaches, referees… to gain inspiration and realise that they can get there too”.

For this course, the JFF is therefore specifically targeting existing and potential female coaches from parishes, ISSA, Advanced Level I and II qualified coaches and female coaches at the grassroots level.
