Grange urges new football boss to focus on grassroots development
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange, has congratulated the new President of the Jamaica Football Federation, Michael Ricketts, and encouraged him to pay particular attention to developing the game at the grassroots level.
Ricketts won the election ahead of Stewart Stephenson on the weekend to complete the term of the late JFF president, Horace Burrell.
According to a press release from the ministry this morning, Grange expressed confidence in Rickett’s ability to lead Jamaica’s football “at a critical time of change.”
Addressing the development of the sport, she noted that: “Without a strong grassroots programme we will not sufficiently unearth and develop talent that will lead to exceptional results for Jamaica at the high performance level.”
Grange also said she looked forward to an early meeting with the new president to discuss ideas to develop the game.
