Having impressed as managing director of Scotiabank Trinindad and Tobago, as well as senior vice-president and head of Caribbean South and East, Jamaican Anya Schnoor will travel to Toronto, Canada, as executive vice-president of the bank’s retail payment, deposits and unsecured lending operations.

With this appointment, Schnoor becomes the most senior Caribbean national in the global financial institution.

Schnoor’s promotion to the international position takes effect on November 1, 2017.

President and CEO of Scotia Group Jamaica Jackie Sharp — who recently announced her resignation from that post effective October 31, 2017 — expressed happiness for and pride in Schnoor’s accomplishments on behalf of the local and regional franchise via a news release.

“Anya has demonstrated her abilities in all positions she has held with the bank and has contributed significantly to our positioning across the Caribbean,” the release quotes Sharpe.

In 2006 Schnoor joined the Scotiabank Jamaica, thereafter gradually being promoted to several senior positions, including executive vice-president of Scotiabank’s wealth management and insurance divisions -Scotia Jamaica Life Insurance Company, Scotia Private Client Group, and Scotia Investments Jamaica (formerly Scotia DBG Investments). It was during that time that she was instrumental in the merger DB&G Merchant Bank and DB&G Unit Trust with the Scotia Group.

Then President and CEO of Scotia Group Jamaica Bruce Bowen, at that time, said of Schnoor: “As one of Jamaica’s youngest CEOs, Anya has led the successful integration of Scotia DBG Investments into the Scotiabank Group. At the same time she has overseen continued expansion of ScotiaLife’s product line and growth in its sales force.”

To this, Dan Wright, then senior vice-president of international wealth management for Scotiabank Canada, added, “Anya has done a tremendous job building out our wealth management business in Jamaica over the past four years. Her knowledge of the industry combined with her strong leadership skills has been key to our success in Jamaica.”

In 2012 Schnoor became managing director for Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago, and by 2016 she was appointed as head of Caribbean South and East with oversight responsibilities for 12 countries, including Guyana, Barbados and Curacao.

A holder of a BA in finance and international business from Florida International University and an MBA from Barry University, also in Florida, Schnoor has more than 25 years’ experience in wealth management and banking. She has served as a director for the Jamaica Stock Exchange and as a chief operating officer and senior vice-president at Pan Caribbean Financial Services Ltd.

In addition, Schnoor was a board member of HEART Trust/NTA, sitting on its finance and investment committee, and a council member of the private sector organisation of Jamaica.

In her new capacity, Schnoor will be responsible for designing and driving financial solutions that drive growth through Scotiabank Canada’s branch network, call centre and digital channels.
