New signee Romario Campbell scored a rare header that gave Humble Lion FC a hard-fought 2-1 win over Boys’ Town FC in their Red Stripe Premier League football game at the Barbican field yesterday.

Campbell, who made the switch from Waterhouse FC to Humble Lion in a move he said is designed to revive his national career, ghosted in behind the defenders and nodded home in the 86th minute.

Earlier Kevaughn Isaacs notched the first goal of the season when he gave Humble Lion a ninth-minute lead. He collected a beautiful defence-splitting pass from Ricardo Dennis and rammed home a torrid left-footer from just inside the box.

Jamiel Hardware responded for the “Red Brigades” after latching onto an erroneous back pass by Andrew Vanzie and waltzing past the onrushing goalkeeper Jovell Plunkett before slotting home in the 16th minute.

Despite veteran Boys’ Town skipper Michael Campbell crashing a free kick onto the crossbar and Hardware stinging the palms of goalkeeper Mikhail Harrison, it was a deserved victory for visitors Humble Lion who ended the game the much stronger team.

Winning Coach Lenworth Hyde was happy for the start.

“We are not match fit as yet, but with more games we will improve our style of play. I thought we fought gallantly and Boys’ Town threw some attack at us, but we defended well,” said Hyde.

Boys Town’s Coach Andrew Price was clearly dissatisfied.

“I am disappointed especially with the way we lost it in the last five minutes of the game. To give up a set play and indifferent marking in the defensive third, we should really have kept them at bay,” Price pointed out.

“I am really upset because I thought we played a really good game; we battled for every ball with Humble Lion and we gave as good as we got,” he added.
