Dancehall artiste Symatic, who emerged winner from this season’s Magnum Kings & Queens of Dancehall, is counting his blessings after narrowly escaping major injuries from a motor vehicle accident on Tuesday night.

“Bwoy, a just the mercy a God, because the result could be different,” he told Jamaica Observer.

The entertainer said he was driving his Honda Fit on the North-South highway, and upon reaching Mamee Bay the vehicle developed mechanical problems and got out of control.

“I never had a problem with the car before, but the wheels just locked to the left. I tried to regain control, but it just flipped and rolled over before it collided into a wall,” he said.

“I got out the car and could walk and that’s a blessing in itself. The car is badly damaged, but that’s the least. I have no broken bones, just cuts and scrapes, and that could only be the work of God,” he said.

Symatic, given name Rodane Oliphant, said although he is still shaken up by the incident, it is business as usual.

“It’s back to the recording studio because no accident can hinder my career,” he said.

Currently the singjay is promoting several singles. Among them is a collaboration with the competition’s second-place winner Vanzo called Accapella Vibes.

He entered Magnum Kings & Queens of the Dancehall in 2010 when he was 14, and again in 2014 and 2016. On his two previous attempts he failed to make it past the auditions.

Symatic told the Observer that although ‘Magnum’ has paved the way for his career, he still has a lot of work to put in.

“The competition has done a lot for me and is a major boost on my career. However, I do know that there is still a lot of sweat, blood and tears to put in to be the entertainer that I set out to be,” he said.
