Westwood past students in US to help rebuild school
NEW YORK, USA — Westwood High School in Trelawny is set to receive assistance with its rebuilding project, following a fire which destroyed parts of a building in May this year.
The New York chapter of the Westwood Old Girls’ Association will hold a special fund-raiser on October 7, “from which all proceeds will go towards the school’s rebuilding project”, according to Jennifer Brown, president of the New York chapter.
She noted that the association decided this year to change its fall fund-raising goals to include assistance with the rebuilding initiative, “as we must rebuild”.
Desks and other furniture which were destroyed in the fire are to be replaced as part of the assistance being provided by the New York chapter of the association.
The October 7 event will be held at the Bay Ridge Manor in Brooklyn, and Brown said that it will also be used to pay homage to women from the “Roaring 20s” and the gains they have made in literature, entertainment, sports, and women’s rights.
The event will also be used to celebrate the Westwood Old Girls Alumni Association which was founded in the 1920s.
