MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Three schools including former champions Glenmuir High, who were not in action, secured zone honours and claimed valuable points for the second round as the return-round games in the first round of the ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition continued yesterday.

Manchester High and Dinthill Technical scored big wins over May Day High and Guy’s Hill, respectively, to maintain perfect win records in their respective zones, while Glenmuir benefited from Denigh High’s loss.

Meanwhile, St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) beat Munro College in their fierce Zone E derby game in Santa Cruz, while Cornwall College came from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw against St James High in Zone A.

Rassani Simpson scored four times to lead Manchester High to a 10-0 romp at May Day High, as they cruised to their eighth-straight win in Zone F to move to 24 points.

Brandon Brown got three goals, while Marcell Holness and Wayne Atkinson got one goal each for Manchester High.

Mile Gully held on to second place, eight points behind, after beating deCarteret College 4-1 with a two-timer from Marlon Miller.

Antonio Roberts, Clive Freckleton and Kaheem Parris got two each and Shamamri Davis scored once as Dinthill Technical beat Guy’s Hill 7-1 to also run their record to eight-consecutive wins in Zone K and take their goal tally past 40 in the season.

Despite not playing yesterday, Glenmuir High were confirmed as winners of Zone M after Denbigh High were surprised 1-0 by Bellefield High in their game.

The results mean that Glenmuir High’s 18 points cannot be overtaken by any team in the zone.

Denbigh High could have secured a place in the second round with a draw, but must now wait until at least their next game.

Seaforth High had their perfect record snapped at six games in Zone O after they were held 2-2 by Morant Bay High, but still lead with 18 points.

STETHS extended their lead over Munro College in Zone E to four points after beating their arch-rivals 2-1 in their game played at Santa Cruz, as they have not lost at home to Munro College since the 2008 season.

Nickjay White and Demar James scored two quick goals for STETHS close the end of the first half and Oneeko Allen pulled one back for the visitors early in the second half, but could not get any closer.

At Jarrett Park, Akeem Smith gave St James High the lead midway the second half over Cornwall College, but overlapping central defender Pagiel Brown salvaged a point for the defending champions as the two teams stay tied at the top of Zone A on 16 points each.

Rusea’s High’s march to the second round was held up after they had to come from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Frome Technical at Frome in their Zone B game.

Rusea’s lead on 20 points, while Green Island jumped ahead of Frome into second place by a point, on 17, after beating Hopewell High 3-0.

Spot Valley High are two points away from booking their second-round spot after coming from behind to beat William Knibb at home and are on 19 points.

Stephen Hood and Courtney Chisholm scored for Spot Valley, who lead Cedric Titus by six points after they were held 0-0 by last-placed Holland High.

Holmwood Technical and Vere Technical took over the lead in their zones after contrasting wins.

Holmwood beat Troy High 4-0 to take over the lead in Zone G with 18 points, passing Alston High, who are on 17 after being held 0-0 by Christiana High.

Vere Technical beat Old Harbour 1-0 and are on 17 points, one point ahead after previous leaders’ Central High’s game against Kemps Hill was rained out.

Garvey Maceo kept pace after thrashing Bustamante High 6-0 and are in third place on 14 points.
