We are ready for by-elections — PNP
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The People’s National Party (PNP) says it welcomes the announcement by Prime Minister Andrew Holness for the holding of by-elections in three constituencies on October 30.
In a release last night, South East St Andrew Member of Parliament and General Secretary of the PNP, Julian Robinson said that the party has been in a state of readiness for some time and had been pressing the government to announce the date for the election to give the people access to representation.
He added that the successful conclusion of the party’s 79th annual conference two weeks ago confirms the high level of enthusiasm which now exists at the base.
The three constituencies which have been without parliamentary representation, the PNP said, will “at long last regain the benefit of parliamentary representation” which was interrupted due to the retirement of Former Prime Minister, Portia Simpson-Miller who represented South West St Andrew; Dr Omar Davies from South St Andrew; and the untimely death of Dr Winston Green who was Member of Parliament for South East St Mary.
