At least six more schools could secure their second-round places in the ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition as the return round continues this afternoon with 24 games across nine zones.

Spot Valley High from Zone C, Little London High from Zone D, St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) from Zone E, Holmwood Technical from Zone G, Ocho Rios High from Zone I and St Mary Technical from Zone J are the most likely teams to advance, while a handful of others could also move forward but would need other results to help them.

Four other schools have already qualified for the second round. They are Manchester High, Dinthill Technical and Glenmuir High, who have won their zones, while Port Antonio High have clinched at least second place in Zone L.

In Zone C today, leaders Spot Valley High will need only a point from their game against Muschett High to secure their place, and a win could see them winning the zone if second- placed Cedric Titus fail to beat William Knibb Memorial.

Spot Valley leads with 19 points, six more than Cedric Titus, and had edged Muschett High 1-0 in their first-round game.

Cedric Titus were tipped to win the zone at the start of the season, but have slipped badly and are in a race with a resurgent Herbert Morrison for second place.

Cedric Titus, who have drawn three of their last four games, must win today to stay ahead of Herbert Morrison who will play last-placed Holland High today.

Little London, who are on 14 points, continue to do just enough to win, scoring a measly five goals in six games in Zone D, but are yet to concede any. Today they will face a desperate Mannings School, who lost on Saturday for the first time, and are on 10 points from seven games.

Second-placed Petersfield High will host Grange Hill and could advance as well, but they must depend on other results in the zone.

A win for STETHS against Maggotty High in Santa Cruz should be enough to see them through, with second-placed Munro College hosting third-placed Lacovia High.

STETHS, who are coming off a vital 2-1 win over Munro College on Saturday, lead with 17 points. Munro are on 13, while Lacovia (11 points) and must win today if they are to stay in the race for a second-round spot.

Holmwood Technical, who are yet to concede a goal in eight games, will face Alston High in a Zone G top-of-the- table clash with one point separating the teams.

Holmwood are on 18 points and had beaten visitors Alston 2-0 in their first meeting, while third- placed Spalding High, who are still in with a shot at second spot, will face last-placed Troy High.

The wheels appear to have fallen off the Ocho Rios wagon as after winning their first four games without conceding a goal in Zone I, they have taken just one point from their last three games while giving up four goals.

Still, a draw against Steer Town today would be enough for Ocho Rios to limp into the second round.

St Mary Technical are expected to beat newcomers Carron Hall and take their places in the second round, while second-placed Oracabessa High face a tough test against Brimmervale High, who they had beaten 3-2 in the first round.

Defending champions Cornwall College and Zone A leaders St James High, who are tied on 16 points each, will continue their race for zone honours as they seek away wins today.

St James High, who lead on goal difference, are away to Irwin High, while Cornwall College will be at Green Pond High.

Third-placed Maldon High, who are six points adrift, will host Anchovy High.
