ST JAMES, Jamaica — A curfew has been imposed in sections of the Mount Salem community since 6:00 pm yesterday and will remain in effect until 2:00 pm Sunday, October 8, the Zones of Special Operation Communication Centre announced today.

The boundaries of the curfew are as follows:

North along Mount Salem main road; South along Barnett View, Catherine Drive and Jarrett Terrace; East along Mount Salem Gully; and West along Catherine Drive and Catherine Mount.

During the hours of the curfew, all the persons within the boundaries are required to remain within their premises unless otherwise authorised in writing by the joint commanders within the zone. The joint commanders are Major Godfrey Sterling and Superintendent Kirk Ricketts, the communication centre said.

Mount Salem and its environs was declared the first zone of special operations under the Law Reform (Zones of Special Operations) (Special Security and Community Development Measures) Act by the prime minister on September 1.

This is the second curfew to be imposed in the area since the start of the ZOSO as one was imposed on Friday, September 22, and remained in effect until 6:00 pm Sunday, September 24.

The boundaries of that curfew were: North along Mount Salem main road between Campbell Lane and Clarke Street; south along Willow Way and Mount Salem Gully; east along Clarke Street; and west along Campbell Lane and Mount Salem Gully.
