We are ready to debate! — PNP
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The People’s National Party says it is ready to face the Jamaica Labour Party after this week agreeing to participate in debates being organised by the RJR Gleaner Group.
The PNP, in a release today, said that the candidates in the upcoming by-elections Angela Brown Burke, Mark Golding and Dr Shane Alexis will participate on behalf of the party on the dates to be set by the media entity.
According to the PNP, the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP’s) call for the National Debates Commission to set up a public face-off is a stumbling block to avoid debating as it is widely known that the commission organises for national polls and not by-elections.
“Public debates are essential in informing voters about key national issues and showcasing the preparedness of the candidates for the important representational role,” the PNP argued.
The PNP said should the call be answered by the JLP, its candidates are ready to participate.
