KINGSTON, Jamaica — Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the well known nickname of former St Mary South Eastern member of Parliament Harry Douglas, “Pip Pip”, aptly describes the treatment residents of the constituency received under the 18-and-half-years of People’s National Party (PNP) representation.

Douglas, who held the seat for the PNP from 1989 to 2007, is notorious for rapidly driving through the constituency blowing his vehicle’s horn ‘pip pip’ as he passed by.

The Jamaica Labour Party’s Dr Norman Dunn and PNP’s Dr Shane Alexis are now vying for the seat vacated through the death of former MP Dr Winston Green in April this year.

According to Holness who accompanied Dunn to get nominated this morning, Dunn’s story aligns well with what people there would understand, experience and aspire towards.

“But that is not what recommends him”, the prime minister said, adding that what recommends Dunn “is his is competence, his own success in business and his obvious display of wanting to come back on serve and that endears me to hear him as a candidate and I am certain the electors in South East St Mary would also be endeared by these qualities.”

“But if I were a voter in South East St Mary, I would look at the history of the constituency and if you put it all in the balance the JLP Government and the JLP representatives have done far more than for the development of this seat than the PNP”.

He made reference to Dr Green’s tenure, where he said you had to search really hard during his period of time in Government for infrastructure work done.
