Phillips confident of PNP win in St Mary SE
ST MARY, Jamaica — People’s National Party (PNP) President, Dr Peter Phillips says he is confident that candidate for the St Mary South Eastern, Dr Shane Alexis, will bring home victory for the party.
“Our organisation has done its canvas and they feel very comfortable. I’m not about predicting margins [but] what I can say [is that] we are confident that Shane Alexis will be the next Member of Parliament,” assured Phillips, who was speaking to journalists outside the nomination centre in Anotto Bay, St Mary.
“He is a natural, gifted leader,” said Phillips, who also noted that because of his medical training, Alexis understands the quality of service and has served in many capacities.
At the same time, he said that this by-election represents an opportunity to continue good representation in St Mary South Eastern.
“We have had experience in this constituency of PNP representation and prior to that 45 years of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and I think one can say of all the developments – the Anotto Bay High school; St Mary Technical; the 27 primary schools; road work including Enfield and other roads was all done under the stewardship of the PNP,” the party leader outlined.
He added that the by-election is also an opportunity for the people of the constituency to not only demonstrate their own search for development but also to send a signal that will be heard by the rest of Jamaica.
Alexis was this afternoon nominated to contest the seat for the party against the Jamaica Labour Party’s Dr Norman Dunn in the October 30 by-election.
