Machete-wielding mom for court tomorrow
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Doreen Dyer, the 44-year-old mother who was seen beating her daughter with a machete in a video circulating on social media, is to face the St Thomas Parish Court tomorrow.
Dyer was charged last week with cruelty to a child.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) gave an update on the new court date via Twitter this morning.
The woman was initially booked to face the court yesterday.
The video, which has gone viral, showed Dyer, dressed only in her underwear, hitting the girl with what appears to be a machete, while using expletives.
The JCF later revealed that the incident took place sometime last year in Bath, St Thomas and the girl was 12 years old at the time.
After charges were proffered against Dyer, several members of the community have called on authorities to be lenient on her, claiming that she is a good mother to her children.
