Section of Bustamante Highway in Clarendon remains closed — NWA
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising the motoring public that a section of the Bustamante Highway in Clarendon, which was closed yesterday for drainage improvement works, will remain closed until 7:00 pm tomorrow in order to complete repairs.
The NWA said a broken culvert in the eastbound lane of the highway in the vicinity of the Foga Road exit is being replaced with a high density plastic pipe to increase the capacity of the drain.
Stephen Shaw, communications and customer service manager at NWA, said the work team was halfway through with repairs this afternoon when they had to retreat due to heavy afternoon showers.
He said the earth drains on either side of the culvert will be cleaned and headwalls constructed as part of the drainage improvement works. The roadway was undermined following heavy rains two weeks ago.
NWA advised that during the period of works motorists travelling in a westerly direction towards Mandeville will be directed onto Glenmuir Road then onto Manchester Avenue towards Foga Road or straight through to Four Paths. The reverse obtains for motorists travelling towards Kingston.
The NWA also advised motorists and pedestrians to obey all posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons.
