PNP welcomes MOCA probe, says housing spokesman
KINGSTON, Jamaica — People’s National Party (PNP) Shadow Minister of Housing Dr Morais Guy says his party welcomes Prime Minister Andrew Holness’ intention to have the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) investigate the operations at the Housing Agency regarding the Luana and the Hills of Boscobel projects.
“The PNP has nothing to hide,” Guy said in a release this afternoon in response to Holness’ assertions that millions of dollars were misappropriated in the development of the housing schemes in St Elizabeth and St Mary respectively.
“The party supports transparency, and urges the investigating body to be as fulsome as possible, including the initial Luana project, which had a bearing on the construction costs of all units,” said Guy.
According to Guy, Holness’ call for investigation of the Luana and Hills of Boscobel projects should have been preceded by a call for MOCA to investigate the $800 million de-bushing programme in which the Contractor General unearthed “a web of corruption and deceit by government ministers identified by the anti-corruption agency in its special report to Parliament”.
The Opposition spokesman said his party finds it curious that the prime minister is only now seeking this investigation when the Government and Board have been in place for over 18 months.
