The men — Donovan Richards, Omar Pertrie and Tashoma Heslop — reportedly demanded and collected money from several business owners in and around the Spanish Town commercial area in exchange for protection. They are also accused of threatening to set the business establishments ablaze if their demands were not met.
The police reported that an operation was planned and the men nabbed. They were charged on Friday.
Richards, 29, otherwise called ‘Godville’ of Spanish Town in St Catherine, was charged with professing to be a part of a criminal organisation and being a part of a criminal organisation.
Meanwhile, 37-year-old Pertrie otherwise called ‘Freezer’ and 21-year-old Tashoma Heslop otherwise called ‘Shane’, both of March Pen Road in the parish, were charged with the offences of participating in a criminal organisation and extortion.
The police did not specify the gang that each of the men is said to be associated with.
The three are scheduled to appear before the St Catherine Parish Court on Tuesday, October 31.
