Rifle among 3 guns seized in St James, Kingston; Unidentified man killed
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The police have reported the seizure of a firearm after the fatal shooting of an unidentified man on Friday and the discovery of two other illegal guns in separate instances in Kingston and St James.
According to the Corporate Communications Unit, the unidentified man was reportedly shot when “challenged” lawmen conducting operations along Gem Road in Trench Town, Kingston about 5:45 am Friday. He was pronounced dead at hospital.
One 9mm pistol with a magazine containing six rounds was reportedly taken from him. CCU said The Inspectorate of the Constabulary (IOC) and the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) are investigating.
Meanwhile, about 11:30 am, the Denham Town Police reportedly seized one Sig Sauer pistol along with a magazine containing six 9mm cartridges on Lincoln Street.
Then on Saturday, police in St James seized one high-powered rifle in Porto Bello, Mount Salem.
Reports are that a team of officers conducted a special operation in the area about 5:10 am and the firearm was found in bushes wrapped in a beach towel in a black plastic bag.
No one was arrested in relation to these two seizures.
Investigations are ongoing.
