KINGSTON, Jamaica — Businessman Damion Crawford and attorney-at-law Donna Scott-Mottley were today sworn in as People’s National Party (PNP) senators in a closed ceremony at King’s House.

The Governor General, acting on the advice of the Leader of the Opposition, Dr Peter Phillips, administered the Oath of Office to both nominees, the PNP said in a release this afternoon.

The party also disclosed that Scott-Mottley will assume the role of Leader of Opposition Business in the Senate.

Scott-Mottley was first sworn in as a Government Senator in 1989 during the PNP led-administration. She is an experienced criminal lawyer.

Crawford, a former Member of Parliament for East Rural St Andrew, is known as an educator, entrepreneur and outspoken advocate on many social issues. He was Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment in the last PNP government.

Crawford and Scott-Motley are taking the seats in the Upper Chamber vacated by outgoing PNP senators Dr Angella Brown Burke and Mark Golding.
