MoBay oil spill causes noxious odour in Freeport
ST JAMES, Jamaica — The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) is cautioning residents of Freeport in Montego Bay, St James, that they may experience a noxious odour as a result of an oil spill which took place at Berth 1 and 2, in the city on Thursday night.
According to NEPA, it is anticipated that as the day progresses and wind speed picks up the odour may linger.
The agency advised that in the interim residents of the community and surrounding areas who have respiratory illnesses should avoid the area until it returns to more favourable conditions.
Clean up of the spill has started while investigation is ongoing, NEPA said.
