Sharpe, Rodgers star at ICWI/Jamaica Reach To Recovery Pink Run
In the sea of pink that flooded New Kingston for the ICWI/Jamaica Reach To Recovery Pink Run, Ari Rodgers and Llori Sharpe emerged male and female champions yesterday.
Rodgers, who won in 16:08 minutes was 32 seconds ahead of the second-placed finisher Tarees Rhoden, while Kemar Leslie clocked 16:49 minutes for third place in the men’s category.
The Kingston College athlete who was doing the race for the first time said his preparation for the run had gone well.
“The win was nice; I was very well prepared. though it was my first time to run in New Kingston, the competition was nice because I ran like 2k hard and I relaxed the last distance,” he noted.
Rodgers’ female counterpart, Sharpe, who is also a junior Team Jamaica triathlete, crossed the finish line at 20:27 minutes, two minutes ahead of her closest rivals Chrisann Lewis and Janetta Robinson, who were second and third, respectively.
The teen changed her original race tactics early into the race after recognising that she had separated herself from her female counterparts at the one kilometre mark.
“After realising that they were not like close to me, I just stayed with the men for the rest of the race,” she added.
In the coming weeks, the ICWI/Jamaica Reach To Recovery Pink Run Planning Committee will announce the total sum raised from the 5K Run and Walk and will hand over the sum to the beneficiary Jamaica Reach To Recovery.
