KINGSTON, Jamaica — Highly regarded sports administrator Michael Fennell is to be honoured by the Calabar Old Boys Association (COBA) on November 24.

The event, scheduled for the Spanish Court Hotel in New Kingston, coincides with the closing of the curtains on Fennell’s tenure as president of the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) in June of this year, after 40 years of service.

Fennell also served as chairman of the Commonwealth Games Federation for nine years and as president for eight years. Since 2011, he was named Honorary Life President.

“We honour this true Jamaican patriot who has brought honour not only to our school but to the nation and it is timely and deserving that Jamaicans recognise the superlative service that Mr Fennell has given to our country, specifically, to the development and growth of sports in Jamaica,” COBA President, David Miller said in a release.

Former Prime Minister of Jamaica and Fennell’s classmate, PJ Patterson is expected to deliver the keynote address, while former cabinet minister and author, Arnold Bertram will act as emcee at the upcoming tribute.
