ST ANDREW, Jamaica — Reports have surfaced that criminals are posing as members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and robbing individuals.

The police are now urging the public to be on the lookout as the men are dressed in fake police clothing and travel in a vehicle with flashing blue lights.

The most recent reported incident occurred Saturday night along East Kings House Road in St Andrew where the men stopped a businessman near the entrance to the Kingsgate Apartments.

He was robbed of a large amount of cash and his licensed firearm.

Head of the JCF Corporate Communications Unit, Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay said that the victim was approached by two men in a car, who said they were police officers.

They demanded a search of the man’s vehicle and he was relieved of his firearm and over one million dollars.

“We are conducting investigations; we have confirmed that these men were not police officers. We are following leads at the moment,” Lindsay said as she urged people to be on alert for the fake cops.

“When you are stopped, you need to be 100 per cent sure that persons are in fact police officers and demand to see some form of identification,” she advised.

“If they are in a vehicle marked police, call 119 to verify,” Lindsay added.
