KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS) — The 25th annual National Prayer Vigil will be held on Sunday, December 10 on the grounds of King’s House from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Chairman of the National Prayer Vigil Committee, Reverend Dr Roy Henry, made the announcement at a press briefing at King’s House yesterday.

The event, which will be held under the theme ‘Justice, Unity, Peace and Healing’, is being hosted by the local Ministers’ Fraternal under the patronage of Governor General, Sir Patrick Allen.

Providing an overview of the vigil, Dr Henry said this year’s event will see more than 300 churches taking part.

He urged all Jamaicans to join the committee on that day in prayer to invite God’s blessings on the nation.

“This prayer vigil has been called so that more Jamaicans will be more sharpened in awareness of the situation that faces us at this time as a nation, and will leave committed to playing his or her part in making our nation a better place for us to live. We look forward to having a great time as we all intercede on behalf of our nation,” Dr Henry said.

At each vigil, a social project is identified to be addressed through the joint efforts of the Ministers’ Fraternal and the Committee of the National Prayer Vigil. This year, the Cornwall Regional Hospital has been selected as the area of focus.

Several major projects have been undertaken by the entities over the years, including the donation of a Renatron machine to the Renal Unit of the Kingston Public Hospital; two ambulances donated by bauxite mining company, Jamalco, to the May Pen Hospital in Clarendon; and the donation of water tanks to the Buff Bay Hospital in Portland, to assist in improving the water supply at the hospital.
