PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) — A secondary school principal and a physical education teacher are to re-appear in court next week after they were given TT$120,000 (One TT dollar=US$0.16 cents) bail each on fraud charges related to their school’s participation in the Secondary School Football League.

Troy Jebodhsingh, 50, the principal of the Fyzabad Composite School and Nigel Lakhan appeared in court on Thursday each charged with six fraud offences.

Jebodhsingh is charged with two offences of misbehaviour in public office by submitting an A’ Level recommendation form with O’ Level results to the school supervisor knowing the students were not bona fide students at the school or qualified to pursue Caribbean Advance Proficiency Examination (CAPE) as set by the Barbados-based Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC).

He is also alleged to have signed on September 5, a declaration on the Secondary School Football League Player Registration Form for the Fyzabad Secondary School authorising the students to participate in the Secondary School Football League knowing they were not bona fide students and not qualified to pursue CAPE.

Lakhan is facing charges of uttering a forged Secondary School Football League Player application registration on September 5 form bearing the stamp and the signature of the principal at the Fyzabad Secondary School knowing it to be forged and with intent to defraud.

The two officials were jointly charged that on September 5 they twice uttered a forged CXC Caribbean Secondary Education certificate knowing it to be forged and with intent to defraud. Jebodhsingh has been employed within the teaching service for 27 years.
