MEET THE SUPREMES: Kerry-Ann Major

Get to know more about your favourite ladies of the Supreme Ventures draw team with our new feature series ‘Meet the Supremes’.

Kerry-Ann Major is a very popular Supreme Ventures’ senior draw officer. Her larger-than-life personality has helped to develop Kerry-Ann’s fan base that spans the length and breadth of the island.

How long have you been with Supreme?

Twelve years. I was a draw officer for five years, but prior to that I was a draw talent.

How did you join SVL?

I am actually a trained teacher. While at St Catherine Prep, a parent approached me and said, ‘you know, they’re having auditions for a job at Supreme Ventures.’ I was like ‘mi never do dem sumn deh yet’ but I came in for the auditions in 2005, they called me and I’ve been here ever since.

What was your first live draw like?

The first live draw I had there was an issue with the machine. We had a technical issue on the set and while I thought we were off air, we were still on air and I was swinging the mic, chatting and everything. it was a disaster.

Your fans have several names for you, could you tell us some of the names they call you?A lot of people know me as “Sunshine”, because apart from being at Supreme Ventures I am also a party promoter, so I’m known in the streets. So, when they see me, those who know me will say ‘Sunshine’. Those who don’t will call me Kerry or ‘Browning’ or ‘Big Red’.

How did you get into teaching?

Give you a joke, my mother told me she was going to send me abroad. I was so excited and I packed up everything, but she ended up dropping me off at Shortwood Teacher’s College and told me I would be spending the next three years of my life there. It is a move I have never, ever regretted. I taught for 10 years and loved every bit of it.

Where are you from?

Born and grow in Spanish Town.

What schools did you attend?

I attended St Jago Prep. I lived in England for two years, came back to Jamaica and attended St Catherine High. I didn’t know what I wanted to do after leaving St Catherine High, so I skipped a year trying to figure out my life and then Shortwood Teacher’s College.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time I am a movie/reality TV girl, so at the least chance I get I have to catch up on my Love & Hip Hop, Real Housewives of Atlanta.

You have a daughter. How old is she?

Paris is nine years old. She plays netball and right now she’s the goal shoot for her school’s team, so I’m kinda like the soccer mom. Every match, I’m there; I’m her number one fan.

When is your birthday?

October 24. I’m a Scorpio, the best sign by far.

What is your favourite colour?

I know black is a shade, but give me black anytime.

What’s your favourite food?

I’m a foodie. I eat everything, but give me anything with breadfruit or plantain, ackee and saltfish, seafood…

What do you do to de-stress?

I like to dance. It might sound funny, but I am someone who will literally go in my room, close the door, put on some Vybz Kartel music and dance.

What’s your favourite dancehall song right now?

Right now I’m liking Shenseea and Tommy Lee Bridgets and Desert. So big up Shenseea!

Kerry-Ann is a trained teacher with 10years in early childhood education underher belt. She came to Supreme Venturesafter a parent at St Catherine Prepsuggested that she audition for the job asdraw talent.
