AK47 found during clean-up of Montego Bay
MOUNT SALEM, St James — Mayor of Montego Bay Homer Davis is reporting that an AK47 rifle was recovered this morning during a clean-up exercise of the second city.
The mayor, who made the disclosure a short while ago, said the clean-up exercise which started on Thursday is progressing “very well”.
He said that at about 7:30 this morning the gun was found in the North Gully by the clean-up crew. “The team was there cleaning, and instead of recovering debris and other things that were washed down, they recovered an AK47 rifle in the process,” Davis said.
“So we can see that the rain and its flooding took with it weapons of mass destruction. And I am sure that that will be one such weapon out of the hands of misguided persons in this city.” The mayor was addressing the opening of a Ministry of Health National Cancer Treatment Centre at the Cornwall Regional Hospital.
Heavy rains resulted in the North Gully overflowing its retaining walls and flooding sections of the town on Wednesday. The flooding left several businesses, offices and vehicles flooded, resulting in millions of dollars in losses.
