NSWMA says work on Riverton road causing collection delays
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) says it is currently undertaking temporary remedial work on interior roads of the Riverton disposal site which has resulted in truckers experiencing long delays at times.
The NSWMA explained that while the remedial work has caused disruption in the collection schedule across Kingston, St Andrew and St Catherine, it became necessary as a result of the severe damage caused by the persistent rains experienced over several weeks.
“With the approaching Christmas season and the expected increase in generation of solid waste, we will not attempt a permanent fix at this time as this would cause significant disruption in our collection schedule across Kingston, St Andrew and St Catherine,” the NSWMA stated today.
The company apologised for the inconvenience caused and assures the public that it is doing everything possible to complete these works and return to normal operations.
