Magnum/KSAFA Super, Major Leagues launched
The Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) launched its 2017-2018 Super and Major League season with a $9.2-million programme at the Wray & Nephew offfices in Kingston, on Tuesday.
Wray & Nephew, as title sponsors through its Magnum brand, along with Charley’s JB Rum, will contribute the major sum of $5.7 million towards both leagues.
Associate sponsors for the second year, Charles Chocolate and Sunshine Snacks will provide $2 million to the overall budget.
Western Sports is the official ball sponsor and, under the Select brand, will contribute match balls to the value of over $1.5 million. This arrangement will entail free match balls to KSAFA in addition to significant discounts on match and training ball purchases.
Twelve teams will contest the Magnum/KSAFA Super League in two zones — A and B — while 16 teams will take part in the Magnum/KSAFA Major League in two zones — A and B.
Prize monies allocated to both leagues will total $1.565 million, with $1 million allocated to the Super League winners and the sum of $565,000 allocated to the Major League winners.
A contribution of $35,000 will be given to each of the 28 clubs participating in the leagues, for club infrastructure development.
KSAFA President Wayne Shaw, in making the announcement, pointed out that the sponsorship for both competitions last year was $6.5 million, with Magnum being the major sponsor and Charles Chocolate contributing $1 million. This season, however, the overall sponsorship is $7.7 million.
Shaw also made mention of the valuable contributions that are being made by KSAFA hydration sponsors Pure Water, medical sponsors and partners Delgado Health Services, UWI Mona Academy of Sports, University Hospital of the West Indies, and media sponsors KLAS FM/ESPN Sports Radio and TVJ.
Without the services of the referees, games would not have legitimacy, therefore Shaw implored teams and their supporters that, in an attempt to have a successful, productive and high-quality season of football, impeccable discipline, and above all else, respect for the decisions of referees must be emphasised.
