Flash flood watch in northern, south eastern parishes extended
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Meteorological (Met) Service has extended a flash flood watch for low-lying and flood-prone areas of Hanover, St James, Trelawny, St Mary, St Ann, Portland, St Thomas and Kingston and St Andrew until 5:00 pm this evening.
According to the Met Service, a stationary front across Jamaica continues to influence the weather conditions on the island.
Satellite imagery and radar reports indicate that light to moderate showers affected sections of northern and south eastern parishes last night and this morning.
The forecast is for mostly cloudy conditions with periods of showers and possible thunderstorms to continue to affect sections of most parishes, especially northern and southeastern parishes throughout the day to Thursday.
Flash flooding is therefore possible over some low-lying and flood-prone areas of northern and south eastern parishes.
A flash flood watch means that flash flooding is possible and residents are advised to take precautionary measures, keep informed by checking further releases from the Met Service, and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a warning is issued.
