No meeting planned with Councillor Troupe, PNP insists
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) is today refuting claims in the media that there was to be a planned meeting between the party and embattled Councillor for Granville Division, Michael Troupe.
The meeting was supposedly planned as a probe continues into the seizure in Miami of an illegal shipment of 119 guns and a large quantity of ammunition destined for Jamaica last month.
New developments were revealed yesterday involving a woman with connections to Troupe alleged to be the consignee.
In a release today, the party said the claim of a planned meeting with Troupe “is absolutely untrue and a complete concoction.”
The PNP release comes on the heels of a report in today’s Observer where General Secretary of the party, Julian Robinson said he would be meeting with Troupe and would comment on the matter afterwards.
Meanwhile, Head of Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime branch, Assistant Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey, confirmed yesterday that the accused woman was detained on reasonable suspicion of conspiracy to import guns and ammunition after surrendering to the police.
