The Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA), in collaboration with its partners, continues its thrust of protecting the nation’s borders from illicit goods and trading activities.

On Saturday, October 16, 2017, Officers from the JCA, the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF) Narcotics Division and Port Security seized a shipment consisting of approximately 525.7 lb/238.95kgs of marijuana with an approximate street value of $2,628,500 concealed in a trans-shipment container being loaded for export.

During routine checks, inconsistencies were observed with the container and further examination led to the discovery of packages containing vegetable matter. A field test confirmed the contents to be marijuana.

The matter is currently being investigated by the Border Protection Division of the JCA and the JCF’s Narcotics Division.

The agency is reminding importers and travellers to desist from importing or exporting illegal goods as the agency will utilise all resources available to intercept such goods or items from either leaving the shores of the island or entering our markets.
